But God- Psalm 23 from a "but God" point of view.

Greetings,

But God Image_Color_CrossHave you ever been listening to a sermon and had the preacher say, 'in closing', only to continue the sermon? Two or three times? I'm going to do that with this edition. I said last time we were done with the 23rd Psalm - but, wait for it- there's more! We are going to approach the entire Psalm from the vantage point of the title of this blog, 'but God'. If you have ever wondered why we call it that, allow me to explain. Anytime you want to know what anyone truly believes about the topic of conversation, listen to what they say (or you think silently) after the word "but". Now, if we believe that the truest thing is what God says, we should really listen to what He says after 'but'. With that in mind, I want to listen in on an imaginary conversation between David and God that might have produced Psalms 23. Again, this is me using my imagination. I encourage you to use yours. Here goes-

David, "I feel alone, on my own."
God, "BUT David, I AM shepherding you."
David, "I left everything, I don't have anything."
God, "BUT David, I am your provider, you have everything you need."
David, "I miss my kingdom and palace."
God, "BUT David, this pasture I picked out just for you looks good on you."
David, "I keep focusing on my reality, and forgetting You are my Shepherd."
God, "BUT David, I will, by My Spirit, remind you of Me and REALITY."
David, "Show me where to go."
God, "BUT David, I always have, it is Who I AM."
David, "This is really dark. I'm afraid of the shadows."
God, "BUT David, fear not, I AM protecting you and always with you."
David, "I am afraid of your rod and your staff."
God, "BUT David, they are extensions of Me and My love for you."
David, "How can I get through this, I don't even have food."
God, "BUT David, I AM going to meet your needs right in front of your enemies."
David, "Wow, Lord, You amaze me. You have protected, provided, and delivered me."
God, "BUT David, I AM anointing your mind with my Truth."
David, "Thank You for tracking and pursuing me with you Goodness and Love."
God, "BUT David, I will continually do that until you make your home in me forever."
David, "Thank You, thank You, thank You."
God, "My pleasure, son. Why don't you call me Abba."

Well, in closing (we assume), we ask that you keep those questions coming. You can send them to the email address found below. It's been a fun journey through this Psalm, thanks for joining us.

Blessings,

Thomas

If you want to know what someone really thinks, just listen to what they say after the word ‘but’ …so it is here with…”but God!”“

Note: “but God” is a weekly ministry of Robinson Outdoors Products written for us by pastor and spiritual counselor, Thomas Paige. “But God” is posted each week on the ScentBlocker website and can be found there along with the archives of messages of past years and months from Thomas. “But God” is also posted each week on ScentBlocker Facebook page and on Twitter.

You may ask, “why would Robinson, an outdoor products company with brands ScentBlocker and Tree Spider, making products for hunters, spend its time on something like “but God”?” Great question, as we here at Robinson consider our work place our mission field, our products bearing the John 3:16 inscription our outreach. In every new ScentBlocker jacket there is a laminated waterproof pocket insert that contains the salvation message printed in two languages. And, we ask the Lord to provide more opportunities for us to be a light unto a dark world.

What responses do we receive from our customers? Each week thousands and thousands of people read the “but God” message online. We receive dozens and dozens of appreciative emails, rejoicing that a company has the courage to stand up for what it believes despite perhaps it not being the most popular thing to do these days. God has blessed our lives and our business!

I hope you will enjoy this weeks’ “…but God” as Thomas continues the series, unto the Lord!
