But God... He is our Good Shepherd! He is Risen!

Greetings,

As we continue our journey through Psalm 23, I want to take a look back as we contemplate and celebrate Good Friday and Easter.

For a backdrop of our contemplation, I want to borrow from a decades  old sermon titled, 'It's Friday, but Sunday's coming' (you can probably still find it on You Tube). This is of course referring to Good Friday and Easter.

Also we need to remember the setting of this  Psalm being written. David is in a cave running for his life, having lost his entire kingdom overnight. In this dark setting, he is enabled by the Holy Spirit to see through his earthly reality to his spiritual REALITY. I am pretty confident that this battle for his mind was a moment by moment thing, as it often is with us.

We know the truth, but our emotions keep flipping through the channels of what our physical reality looks like. I can imagine David's internal conversations going something like this; running for my life feels like Friday - but Shepherd says, Sunday's coming.

Swapping a palace for a cave feels like Friday - but Shepherd says, Sunday's coming. I’m not seeing any green pastures - looks like Friday - but Shepherd says, Sunday's coming. Waters are rushing, not still, sounds like Friday - but Shepherd says, Sunday's coming. I'm cold and scared, not restored, feels like Friday - but shepherd says, Sunday's coming.

It is dark in this cave, just like on the that one Friday - but look again - The Son has come up!!  His Light is shining forever. Praise God, He went through Friday - just to get us to Sunday!

He is our Good Shepherd! He is Risen! Amen.

Blessings,

Thomas

Note: “but God” is a weekly ministry of Robinson Outdoors Products written for us by pastor and spiritual counselor, Thomas Paige. “But God” is posted each week on the ScentBlocker website and can be found there along with the archives of messages of past weeks, months and years from Thomas. “But God” is also posted each week on ScentBlocker Facebook page and on Twitter.

You may ask, “why would Robinson, an outdoor products company with brands ScentBlocker, Tree Spider and Whitewater, making  products for hunters, spend its time on something like “but God”?”  Great question, as we here at Robinson consider our work place our mission field, our products bearing the John 3:16 inscription our outreach. For 2014, there is a laminated waterproof jacket pocket insert that contains the salvation message printed in two languages. And, we ask the Lord to provide more opportunities for us to be a light unto a dark world.

What responses do we receive from our customers? Each week thousands and thousands of people read the “but God” message online. We receive dozens and dozens of appreciative emails, rejoicing that a company has the courage to stand up for what it believes despite perhaps it not being the most popular thing to do these days. Occasionally, we do receive a message from an irate customer that did not want to hear about God’s message. To those we restate our concern for their souls and wish them the very best. Overall, “but God”  has been a blessing to our lives and to our  business!

We hope you will enjoy this weeks’ “but God” as Thomas continues the series, unto the Lord!
