But God- Contract vs. Covenant

Greetings,

I am officiating a wedding this weekend and I want to share a bit of what I plan on saying during the wedding.

But God Image_Color_CrossEntering into marriage is entering into a covenant. A covenant is different than a contract. A contract is conditional and is based on distrust. In other words, if you do your part, I will do my part. If you do not do your part, I am not obligated to do my part. We enter into a contract because at some level, there is a lack of trust, and I need some insurance you will play by the rules. A covenant, on the other hand is unconditional and based on the commitment of the one entering the covenant. The marriage vows we take are indicative of this commitment. We do not vow to treat each other dependent on how we are treated, but rather independent of how we are treated.

The great I AM has entered into covenant with us, His children. I think too often we think of God as having entered into a contract with us. We need to keep His rules in order for Him to love us just a little bit more. How tragically and drastically that waters down His love for us. His love for us was never, is not, and never will be, one bit dependent on us!

He loves us unconditionally and has shed His blood to enter into covenant with us! We are Jesus' bride and He forever delights in us. Now that is part of why the word gospel means good news. It doesn't get any better than that. Thank You. Amen.

Blessings,

Thomas

“If you want to know what someone really thinks, just listen to what they say after the word ‘but’ …so it is here with…”but God!”“

Note: “but God” is a weekly ministry of Robinson Outdoors Products written for us by pastor and spiritual counselor, Thomas Paige. “But God” is posted each week on the ScentBlocker website and can be found there along with the archives of messages of past years and months from Thomas. “But God” is also posted each week on ScentBlocker Facebook page and on Twitter.

You may ask, “why would Robinson, an outdoor products company with brands ScentBlocker and Tree Spider, making products for hunters, spend its time on something like “but God”?” Great question, as we here at Robinson consider our work place our mission field, our products bearing the John 3:16 inscription our outreach. In every new ScentBlocker jacket there is a laminated waterproof pocket insert that contains the salvation message printed in two languages. And, we ask the Lord to provide more opportunities for us to be a light unto a dark world.

What responses do we receive from our customers? Each week thousands and thousands of people read the “but God” message online. We receive dozens and dozens of appreciative emails, rejoicing that a company has the courage to stand up for what it believes despite perhaps it not being the most popular thing to do these days. God has blessed our lives and our business!

I hope you will enjoy this weeks’ “…but God” as Thomas continues the series, unto the Lord!

    Brother Thomas,

I was blessed to receive a Scent Blocker long sleeved T-shirt for my 37th anniversary. As I was reading the tag, I rejoiced when I noticed the sign of the fish and John 3:16. I knew I had to investigate further and while perusing your site to see what you were about, I came across "But God."

It is such a marvelous thing in this day and age to see someone, especially as a company who rests the entire business and its practices on the rock foundation of faith. Please disregard those who speak condemnation and hang on to the messages of encouragement of hope.

Joshua 1:9 says: "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”

Because of your commitment to the Lord, my next purchase will be a ball cap hat and from there, other items. May the Lord bless you, your family and your company and the people employed there.

Thank you for putting God into the business of hunting as he is the creator of all things we get to hunt! I wish you the best as a company and thank you for supporting us here at Mossy Oak Pro Staff.
