Getting Away from the Elements

Sara and her monster 11 foot Florida alligator! Sarah and her monster 11 foot Florida alligator!

With hunting all over the world and hunting all year round I find myself constantly battling the weather elements. From extreme hot – to extreme cold – to the pounding rain of Alaska. With being part of Sola Shield in the Field there is no doubt I have learned how to layer up with the best gear out there and prepare for one extreme to the next. However, that doesn’t mean leaving the cold weather back home to do some exciting gator hunting in Florida doesn’t sound appealing, and that is just what I did! I have been on many alligator hunts but this next one will be pretty hard to top. We went down to southern Florida and got in some nasty swaps (just where they like to be) and there was definitely no shortage on alligators. As we cruised down the swamp there were gators all over – sunning on the banks and looking for dinner. Then the hunt began – calling these big guys in for a bow shot is by no means easy – they are that big for a reason! After a few hours we called a nice 11 footer in and after hours of him laying at the bottom – he came up and presented me with a great bow shot and I made a great shot on this dinosaur. After the show I got a harpoon in him and then a bang stick! It was such a rush and the fight he put up was incredible. I could have been happier to have my 11 foot gator in the boat! As much as I love chasing big game in the mountains and Getting Close with my SOLA gear – a little fun hunting every once in a while never hurts!!!
