Becoming a New Creature

Welcome back. We are continuing our look at what God has to say about us.

So far, we've seen that instead of being estranged from God, striving to earn the love we need, struggling to prove ourselves, living in fear that our efforts won't be enough, that because of His great mercy, by His grace and motivated by His love, we have been adopted into Abba’s family. He has lavished on us His different than anything we've ever known or dreamed of love, and as a result been freed from trying to earn what we've already been given. (Romans 8:15)

But wait, there is more! Upon your adoption, you became a new creature. (2 Cor. 5:17)  "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature, the old things passed away, behold new things have come." What new creature means literally is 'one who has never existed before'. When Abba adopted you, legally you became a new person. At the moment of my adoption, the Thomas of Adam's family ceased to exist-passed away- and the new Thomas of Abba's family was born! This is part of why Jesus talked about being ‘reborn’. So for now, let's let Abba have the final word, you are a brand new person in Abba's family- reborn by Him. This is really good news.

Next time we'll let Him get even more specific about who this new creature is in the gospel according to Abba Father.
