Pre-season Check-ups

Flores - Sept1 - Blog.jpg            Well, it is getting closer to that special time of year.  You know, that time of year when we all try to turn our daydreams into reality.  By now you should have a pretty good idea about where that special stand is going to hang.  If not, there is still a little time left to get things in order.  For me, this time of year is spFlores - Sept3 - Blog.jpgent checking game cameras and trying to put another piece of the whitetail puzzle together.

Now, you may be inclined to think that because it is late summer, most of the precautions I normally take during the hunting season need not be taken seriously at this time.  Well, when it comes to mature bucks, and we all want to harvest one, you can never be too careful.  Especially if you have a camera set up in an area that you suspect he is using.

For example, it does little good to hang a camera in hopes of capturing that reclusive buck if I contaminate the area with my human scent.  It may be late summer, but oFlores - Sept4 - Blog.jpgld Mossy Horns doesn’t know the difference between checking a camera and a threat against his life.  In most of the whitetails range, they are both one and the same.

That is why I try my best to reduce my scent as much as possible; even when I am simply swapping out SD cards in my game-camera.  This means washing everything that will accompany me into the woods in Scent Shield laundry detergent, scrubbing down wiFlores - Sept2 - Blog.jpgth Scent Shield body wash, and lastly, applying Scent Shield hair and body deodorant gel all over.  The body gel is of particular importance during the hot summer months when sweat can really be an issue.  Rounding out my scent-free system is a cover spray such as Fall Blend, Original Boot Spray, or the one of the Titanium or Carbon-based products offered by Scent Shield.

Remember, just because your bow or rifle isn’t in your hand, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to eliminate your scent.  It may take a little extra effort during a time when most guys are throwing caution to the wind (no pun intended), but the results will be well worth it.

God luck to all of you this hunting season and may God bless you and make your daydreams a reality in the coming months!
