We looked at crating solutions to problem hunters have with their current footwear. Our mission is to build the lightest, most comfortable, waterproof breathable designs. When hunting in the mountains the thermal air currents send “heavy” air down the side hills at night. In the morning the air moves back up the mountain causing a change in the wind currents. Sometimes you have to hunt near bedding areas. Your ScentBlocker gear will eliminate your scent, but you also have to be quiet as possible. One idea is to map out the quietest route to your stand. Another idea is bring Sneaky Feet boots with you to make your foot steps quiet while remaining scent free.

tip #76 - Leanne Neuenfeldt, Robinson Outdoors posted on: 2006-06-12
After every hunt I have a routine that I go though to make sure that my ScentBlocker clothing stays as scent free as possible. My ScentBlocker clothing is my hunting clothing, not my hunting camp clothing or my driving clothing. I only wear it when I am hunting. I store each garment in its own air tight plastic bag in the cab. That way, when I dress to hunt I know that I have drastically limited the possibility of having an unnatural odor on my exterior clothing.

tip #75 - Andrea Browne, Robinson Outdoors posted on: 2006-06-12

tip #74 - Leanne Neuenfeldt, Robinson Outdoors posted on: 2006-06-12
After tree steps are manufactured they are covered in a light layer of machine oil. This oil is very obtrusive to whitetails and needs to be removed. The best way to remove this is to soak your tree steps in a bucket or tub mixed with a degreaser to remove the oil. After drying, spray Scent Shield and immediately store them in a scent free container until you are ready to install them.

tip#73 - Leanne Neuenfeldt, Robinson Outdoors posted on: 2006-06-12
One simple way to keep your attractant lures and used Dip Wicks organized in your hunting pack is with the “snack” sized zip-lock bags. I write on the bags in permanent marker to distinguish which lure and which dip wick goes in that particular bag. That way, as you change lures as the season progresses you don’t have different scents mixed together.

tip #72 - Leanne Neuenfeldt, Robinson Outdoors posted on: 2006-06-12
Sometimes when we try to be as scent free as possible we overlook the most critical items. Most of the time we are really good about spraying our hats and facemasks, boots and clothing with a scent killer like Original or Fall Blend Scent Shield, but we forget to spray our gloves and packs. Our gloves are critical for many reasons, but the most important is that you don’t want to leave any scent on your tree steps or climbing sticks to give away your stand location.

tip #65 - Kevin Rose, Robinson Outdoors posted on: 2006-06-12
Scent elimination can be effective, but only if used properly. Successful use of ScentBlocker and Scent Shield materials comes from getting into a routine. Always put your ScentBlocker clothing into ScentBlocker Duffle Bag before you leave for the hunting grounds. Do not dress until you are ready to walk into the woods. Before entering the woods spray down all of your clothing as well as your equipment with Scent Shield. When you get to your stand spray down again to eliminate any sweat odors. When you get done hunting, immediately return your clothing to your Duffle Bag to avoid getting any unwanted scents on your hunting clothes.

tip #64 - Kevin Rose, Robinson Outdoors posted on: 2006-06-12
Still Steamin' can be effectively used by putting a teaspoon of gel into 6 or 7 small zip-lock bags. As you walk to your stand turn the bags inside out and hang them on branches. The gel does not drip out of the bag like other urine scents so the bags will be reusable. The bags hanging from the tree also causes the deer to become curious. I have had bucks in several occasions stop to sniff a baggie allowing me to get a perfect shot.

Black bear have a notoriously acute sense of smell, especially old boars. Many times I had heard and saw big bears approach, glimpse around, and turn and run at the slightest scent of a human. Since I started wearing ScentBlocker garments that’s no longer the case. You might think you have a secret weapon in your special bow, muzzleloader, handgun or rifle, but you’re wrong. That most special secret weapon is the ScentBlocker clothing you’re wearing because it allows you to “Forget About the Wind and Just Hunt”.

I dearly love rattling up whitetail bucks! If you’ve had any experience with rattling you’ve learned that most of the time the mature bucks tend to respond to horn rattling by coming in directly down wind. In years past I had to find ways to stay upwind of these bucks so they did not catch my scent. Wearing and using ScentBlocker products eliminates this problem. I now hunt downwind and do so with confidence.

A neckerchief tied around your neck can certainly help keep valuable warmth from escaping around your neck. But that neckerchief can also harbor scent that might forecast your presence to that buck just beyond sight. For that reason I always spray down my neckerchief with ScentBlocker Carbon Blast. Perspiration soon leads to odors and if you are hunting elk in the mountains or walking and rattling for whitetails, chances are you’re going to sweat. My solution to this is carrying a 12 ounce spray pump bottle of Scent Shield as well as Body Bath Towels in your day pack and occasionally spraying and wiping down with them. Especially the Body Bath Towels because they are lightweight and do not take up much room. Using them properly will make your hunt successful.

Hunters typically hunt in several different extremes of weather. It is unsafe and unproductive for hunters to hunt when they are not comfortable. Maneuvering during times of extreme cold can be dangerous and can prohibit you from getting in position for making a quality shot. Conditions like these are perfect for the Dream Season Fleece Jacket. The jacket is built for cold weather so you can hunt safely and effectively. Hunting warm weather can be another challenge. Staying cool, scent free and still have the protection of camouflage can be achieved using the New UnderGuard XLT. This lightweight shirt is perfect for hunting in warm conditions because it gives you camouflaged protection as well as scent protection without making you sweat. Comfort is one of the biggest keys to a successful hunt.

synthetic material. I’ve tried to eliminate all leather from my equipment and clothing. This includes wallets, wrist straps, belts, leather shoes etc. If you just can’t stand not using your lucky leather belt at least give it a good dousing with Scent Shield Liquid each time before you go out to get maximum protection.

Living in the South West, I spend a good deal of time hunting in warm weather so scent control is extremely important. We warm weather hunters find ourselves in a Catch-22 situation. If we wear a carbon suit we sweat more. If we don’t wear our suits our odor is free to drift in the wind. I’ve solved this problem by carrying a XLT ScentBlocker suit in my backpack. I protect the suit by putting it in a plastic bag. I only put it on when I’m actually on the stalk. I stay cool and sweat free until I’m ready to close the gap, then I don a fresh suit to make my scent disappear.

After I shower I use Hair and Body Deodorant all over my body. I also put it in my hair, like hair gel. It keeps my hair odor free and works great to keep my hair just right through those long days in the field.

Hunters concerned with scent eliminations spray their clothing and boots with Scent Shield Spray. Very few remember to spray their bows, binoculars, safety harness, etc. You use and handle these items constantly, but seldom wash them. They may be the weak link in your scent elimination chain.

I have a small hole drilled in the backside of my decoy. In this hole I place a small toe warmer heat pad with a very small piece of clean cloth with Still Steamin Hot Doe Gel. I tie them together, leaving a little string exposed so it is easy to pull back out.

The Still Steamin Doe Gel can be used in a variety of ways. One of my favorites is the “scrape set up”. I stir 1/3 to ½ tube of Still Steamin Doe Gel into a good active scrape using a clean stick. Make sure you take the stick with you when you leave. You don’t want your buck of a life time there when you are not.

The S3 Hair & Body Deodorant is one of my favorite products. It’s the first line of defense. It attacks odor at its source, the skin. I bathe with Scent Shield Liquid Body Soap. I like to make sure I’m completely dry with a clean scent free towel before applying the Hair and Body Deodorant over my entire body. In warm weather, I carry a small bottle with me so I can reapply to hair and any high-perspiration areas once on stand.

When setting up a tree stand, take the extra time in spraying down the stand as well as the equipment rope with White Lightning scent eliminator. Make sure to tie the rope so it allows your equipment to hang, instead of lying on the ground under the stand. Thus eliminating any scent contamination directly under the stand.

I hunt all over the world, from high altitudes to dense river bottoms. ScentBlocker is a staple for me as much as my bow and arrows. I would not go into the woods without this protection. I’m careful to keep my suits activated, and I always touch up the outer fabric with Scent Shield spray or White Lightning.

It seems like the bug season is always open no matter where you’re hunting. Spring bear, turkey into late season in the Midwest, they are always out on the prowl. The best solution I’ve found is No Stinkin Bugs and Ticks for repelling and staying scent-free.

Don’t forget your head and breath. We lose a tremendous amount of scent from these areas. Also, make sure that you spend as much time taking care of your head gear as you do you garment. These items need to be washed and activated with the same diligence as your clothing. To be confident, always practice with your bow and gun wearing your chosen head cover. Make sure there is nothing that is going to get in your way when you go to take that big shot. The last thing you want to be thinking about is if your head cover will impede your shot. Practice, and make sure you can get the job done when the time is right.

I like to hunt the Copper River Delta in Alaska quite a bit, and when you check the long-term weather for that area, it usually reads heavy rain as far as you scroll. The RainBlocker Pant and Jacket is a must have when I go.

I put a lot of emphasis into the details, whether it comes to business or my passion for hunting. And scent elimination is one of the details to my success in the field. I would have to say it is as important as any other equipment I use… well almost any. Scent Shield Sprays are the ticket for getting rid of unwanted scent.

Hair & Body Deodorant - Professor Stink posted on: 2005-06-09
Most of us work up quite a sweat in our hunting efforts. There is a great product out there that allows you to do so, without creating odor to go along with it! That product is called Scent Shield Hair & Body Deodorant. Rub this non-greasy, water-based lotion all over your body after showering, especially the high sweat gland areas of your underarms, feet, etc. This product will then prevent the growth of bacteria, which is the cause of many of the odors that we produce.

If you sweat on it - clean it - Kevin Rose posted on: 2005-06-08
90% of bowhunter do 90% of their practicing during the summer months. That’s a lot of sweat, insect repellent, and who knows what other odors built up on your equipment and skin. Most of our equipment are scent magnets…your release strap, bow wrist sling, even your watch band. Think about it…what other equipment makes more contact with the body? My old leather release strap is a comfortable old friend, but leather, nylon, rope, etc. soak up odors like a sponge. Wash all of those items in Scent Shield soap…(hint – the shampoo and conditioner works really well on leather items) and don’t forget to give those items a liberal dose of scent shield clothes and boot spray, carbon blast or fall blend before going to the stand. Remember if you sweat it…..clean it!

Get into the habit of spraying down you outer hunting clothes with Original Scent Shield while they are on a hanger…By the time you finish your scent free shower, these outer garments will be dry to the touch and ready to wear. Only a light touch up application of Scent Shield will be needed at the stand. It’s all about scent control!!!!
